My Olympus camera isn’t booting, I need help!?
It started after I took it out in some snow. It took one picture, and then it went kaput.
Things I’ve tried to fix it:
-changing the batteries
-cleaning out the terminals
-blowing on the lens
-hooking it up to the computer to see if it will boot that way
-BOTH the alternate boot buttons
-switching the batteries between spots
-letting it dry out at home while I went on vacation
-using the “on” button
It’s an FE-46 that I haven’t had for too long.
I was using the new Duracell Powerpix Nickel-Oxy-Hydroxide batteries at the time I took the picture. I have since changed the batteries to Energizer alkalines.
NONE of these fixes worked, and Google only turned up reviews and one pay-to-fix site!
Additional bonus questions:
How much does it cost to turn it in for repair, where can I turn it in for repair, and would those silica bags you find in new shoes help, even though I let it dry almost a week?
You do now understand that you don’t take these devices out in the snow.
I’d say that some moisture, pretty obvious to me, got in the camera, shorted something on the
circuit board and the camera is now fried. These devices, again pretty obvious, don’t take well to
liquids of any kind.
Repair? Not doable. These little cameras, especially those under $100 are disposable. They’re like an old cell phone, when – not if – it breaks you throw it away and buy another one.
Next time, no snow please.
