Glittering, Abundant Brass
Gold is but a precious resource used in almost everything: jewelry, fixtures, ornaments and other stuff. Gold is all too important that it’s almost priceless, probably the next best thing to glittering diamonds. But because of its rarity compared to searching for oil and difficulty of mining it, gold carries a hefty price tag all the time. People are forced to search for cheaper and more abundant alternatives—this is where brass comes in.
It is rather peculiar how gold and brass share some things in common. With enough polishing, both can shine like brand new. However, brass dominates gold in more ways than one. Gold cannot be possibly used in making pipes or instruments. The availability of the elements necessary to make the alloy, copper and zinc, is anything but scarce. Unless people have money to burn, they will prefer a cheaper alternative for their furnishings at home.
Brass is easy to work on. It melts at a temperature lower than most metals. Its malleability allows it to be shaped into different products. Given the right polishing agent, brass furnishings can look and shine like gold.
Brass rod suppliers choose to work on the copper-zinc alloy because of such features. In addition, it does not corrode when fluids run inside the pipes. Brass fixings are ideal when fluids like water and chemicals need to be transported from one point to another, among them being medical and industrial facilities. Its smoothbore property allows fluids to flow faster because of reduced friction between the pipe and the fluid itself.
But brass is not limited to engineering uses alone. Brass rods are also used in creating beautiful ornaments in the event that gold is out of the option. Most furniture in the market will have polished brass for their ornaments because they are a cheaper alternative to gold. On some occasions, people confuse polished brass for gold because of the former’s similarity with the latter.
The search for other possible alloy combinations continues. In the future, materials more durable and resilient than brass rods may take to the market. There may even be alloys that are more valuable than gold, if possible.
